Usually puppies have their first vaccination with the breeder before going to their new owner. Make sure to bring your vaccination card to the vet for them to check when your puppy needs its next vaccination.

Vaccinations protect against the following diseases:

Distemper - this virus can attack many organs of the body, especially the brain, eyes, intestinal and respiratory tracts. This disease is often fatal in puppies.

Infectious Canine Hepatitis - this virus damages the liver, causing hepatitis and death.

Parvo virus - this virus infects the intestinal lining causing vomiting and bloody diarrhoea. This disease is still seen commonly and has a high mortality in puppies.

Parainfluenza & Bordatella - these can both cause canine cough. This disease is very common and highly contagious. Although rarely fatal, it causes dogs to have a harsh, hacking cough for a prolonged period and spreads rapidly to in contact dogs.

Your puppy requires at least 2-3 vaccinations depending on its previous vaccination history with the breeder and also which breed it is. Your vet will discuss what vaccinations are needed when you see them.
